Appearance:
Toph has jet-black hair that she typically wears up in a bun with her bangs falling in her face and sometimes even covering her eyes, but if you ever manage to get her to wear it down it's rather long, falling to about her mid-back. She is somewhat pale and rather short but given her young age that's understandable. Her eyes are pale green due to her blindness but somehow always seem to hold a spark of mischief behind them. She tends to smirk a lot and her general stance just screams 'cocky.' Her clothing is typical Earth Kingdom attire consisting mainly of tans and greens and she NEVER wears shoes because it would cut off her connection to the earth, which she needs in order to 'see.'
Personality:
Toph, much like the element she bends, is tough and stubborn. She doesn't budge easily in her opinions and this can sometimes make her hard to get along with if others don't see eye to eye with her. Toph is very tom-boyish and while she grew up in a very high class family has a strong dislike for it because it is so confining, obviously the girl enjoys her freedom, especially now that she's gotten a taste for it. Very sarcastic at times, Toph is also very blunt and to the point, she hates when people beat around the bush and likes to face matters head on. She can sometimes come off as rude or aloof and she hates it when people show pity for her.
Abilities:
Toph is a self taught master earth bender with her own unique style that resembles the martial arts style of Chu Gar (Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu). She is blind but because of her Earthbending she can sense vibrations in the earth which form in her mind to tell her the location of objects/structures and act as her sight. Earth bending, of course, means she can move the earth at her will using the movements of the martial arts mentioned above. Her 'earth sight' has gotten so advanced that she can also see the impurities in metal and bend those as well making her a very rare earth bender that can also metal bend.

However, these powers were severely limited when she was brought to Manhattan. While Toph can still 'see' through the earth her sight isn't as strong, meaning she can't pick up the subtle earth impurities in metal any longer. In addition, it takes a lot more effort to get the earth to move here for the girl and sometimes, if she's been earth bending a lot or trying to move a particularly large piece of earth, it will even tire her.
Weaknesses:
Obviously one of Toph's biggest weaknesses is her blindness. She's been this way since birth so while she HAS learned to adapt there are certain things she's never learned because of it: reading, writing, or learning to swim. Another weakness is Toph's need to prove herself, she will often step into a fight just to show she can and won't back down if someone issues her a challenge. This can often lead to trouble, especially if she starts 'talking smack' (something she readily picked up during her time in the Earth Rumble tournaments back home). Toph also has major insecurities about her appearance but she's only ever brought it up once and most of the time that remains buried under a wall of rock.
Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider
History:
Toph is the only daughter of the wealthy and powerful Bei-Fong family. While this is reason enough for her parents to be overprotective, Toph was also born blind which led her parents to the assumption that she was weak and vulnerable. They let her learn Earthbending but only the most basic of levels. Toph eventually got fed up and at one point ran away, she didn't get far before she was found my the badger-moles (a creature that lives in the caves of the earth kingdom, are blind, and can earth bend naturally). She learned her 'true' Earthbending abilities from them and did this in private so that her parents would never know. When she got good enough she entered underground fighting tournaments to improve and show off her abilities under the alias of 'The Blind Bandit.' Due to her Earthbending and connection to the earth she also learned to "see" in a sense by feeling the vibrations in the earth.

Sneaking out and competing Toph eventually ranks up an undefeated streak of 42-0 until an air-bender named Aang shows up who also happens to be the Avatar. After a fight, in which Aang wins by using air (and floating over the ring so that he was not 'seen' by Toph) and much difficulty Aang convinces Toph to help him learn Earthbending prompting her to runaway from her over protective parents and help him out.

They travel the earth kingdom, Toph teaching him the fundamentals and helping fight off the Fire Nation army led by Azula. They make it to the Earth capital of Ba Sing Se. Toph and the others try to make contact with the Earth King in order to warn him of the impending attack from the Fire Nation. They are thwarted by the King's own "secret service" who has kept the information of the war from the king and the city as a whole. Upon discovering this, Toph and the others force their way into the palace to personally tell him since no one else will. Things fall apart when the group splits up and Toph is captured by a pair from her past (her old earth bending teacher and the man who runs Earth Rumble, the Earthbending tournament) out to get the money for bringing her back to her parents. She escapes however after realizing that metal is only a more refined version of earth that's just a tad harder to bend. She bends it though and is able to escape back to Ba Sing Se to help stop a coo. However, it comes too late and she and the others must flee the fallen city in order to get to the Fire Nation to stop the war.

They eventually reach the Fire Nation (after great difficulty of blending in and trying to keep a low profile) and even manage to get inside the capital itself. Azula and others try to distract them but Toph helps Sokka and Aang keep focused. However just as the eclipse was coming to an end Toph was overcome by a strange sensation and blacked out and when she starts to awaken in Manhattan she immediately senses something is terribly wrong…
